Alaska Summer Research Academy
"The Alaska Summer Research Academy (ASRA) is an intensive, two-week learning experience for students with an interest in science, technology, engineering and math. Students study one subject (module) and work in small teams participating in project-based learning in a college-like environment."
I first came to ASRA as a student in 2006 with the Denali module, which conducted field research on the seismic activity in Denali National Park. Hooked from the moment I set foot on Alaskan soil, I knew my time in Fairbanks would not end after a single two-week camping experience. I returned the next year as an intern with the Photography module, providing technical support for the class. I spent the next few summers instructing, below are some samples of the experiences. Enjoy!

"Engineering Design - ROV" Module 2008-2011
For four summers I instructed a summer class on engineering design in the context of remotely operated vehicles (ROVs). This class is part of the Alaska Summer Research Academy, a camp devoted to fun, hands-on and project-based learning. In just two weeks, my students designed and built ROVs to compete with each other in an underwater capture the flag challenge. If you happen to have red/blue 3D glasses, put them on and enjoy their final presentation video!
